Uruguay Duck Hunting
Uruguay duck hunting is a trip for the sole target of ducks. Two lodges that offer duck hunting in Uruguay are the most popular hunting trips in Uruguay. Los Gauchos offers the hunting trips in Uruguay that focus on ducks during the duck hunting season which begins May 1st and lasts until September 15th. The hunting is good throughout the season and this hunting trip is typically a 4 day hunt. The Fortin Lodge offers Perdiz hunting in combination with the duck hunting. Duck hunting is consistent and a variety of over 12 species can be found in the northeast part of Uruguay - lodges are situated on rice farms and with professional guides that scout, bait, and call - the duck hunting trip is a Uruguay hunting trip to put down and take. Contact Los Gauchos about the duck hunting destinations and for a little as $500, you can have a blind, room, and seat at the table reserved.
Pigeon Hunting
There are so many Uruguay wingshooting trips available now, that the vetting process is becoming a bit more complex for clients who wish to book trips far in advance—something that is necessary due to the popularity of the activity. Uruguay bird hunting outfitters realize this, and are adjusting, some are attempting to specialize more on providing a more narrow range of species in their shooting programs.
Pigeon Hunting in Uruguay is now a great addition to dove hunting and/or partridge hunting, and the action is fast and volume high. There are no limits on the number of pigeons that can be taken, and the birds fly well for several hours, offering The Guns plenty of chances to fill their game bags. The Pica Zuro is a tough pigeon to bring down, requiring a well-placed shot with plenty of pellets on target. Los Gauchos offers excellent pigeon shooting near the city of Young, and we use both static and motion decoys to enhance the experience.
Uruguay Dove Hunting
One can always count on dove hunting in Uruguay to deliver big—just as if one were dove hunting in Cordoba Argentina. The volume is simply that high—like Cordoba doves. Shotgun shells (called “cartuchos” CAR-TOO_CHOSE in Spanish) are brought by bird boys to the field in buckets and then empty hulls are hauled away in grain sacks—in addition to the tremendous amount of birds that make up the daily harvest.
Los Gauchos Outfitters, more than any other Uruguay Bird Hunting Outfitter, set the standard for responsible shooting. 100% of our birds are collected, cleaned, and distributed to a food program in Montevideo that supplies homeless shelters throughout the city. We recognize the importance of conservation, and recognize it as our steadfast duty to keep the trust of our clients and the local community.
Perdiz Hunting in Uruguay
Perdiz Hunting in Uruguay over pointing dog is another big ticket item in Uruguay. Europeans call it “partridge hunting”, and the Perdiz is a partridge-like bird, but it is actually a descendant of the Raya family—a family of birds that is closely related to an Emu, or ostrich.
The behavior of a Perdiz is similar to the Emu as well. They will never fly unless they are forced to, and prefer to run and duck for cover. They are quick runners, and their feathers give them the ability to blend in with grass that one would swear—and they often do when it happens—that is too short to hide in. Combine that with the fact that they are able to lie almost flat, with only their small heads bumping up from the ground, and you (and your bird dogs) have a tough opponent on your hands.
Although it is not high volume, Perdiz hunting is great fun, and the birds are delicious to eat. The limit is ten birds per hunter, and it is a limit that is quickly reached by any shooter with intermediate shooting skills.
Uruguay Ducks
Home to a variety of ducks: 4 species of teal, shovelers, Rosybilled Pochards, Brown Pintails, and white-faced tree ducks, and if one is lucky, a Black Headed duck. These ducks are all strangers to decoys and gunfire, and decoy readily into simple spreads of only a few blocks painted up like the local birds, making Uruguay duck hunts a very unique experience…an experience you will never forget.
Do you miss the duck hunting of yesteryear? It is happening right now for those duck in Uruguay! No plugs, no steel shot, and illegal shooting hours make Uruguay waterfowl hunting a shotgunners paradise. Once again, all ducks are cleaned and breasted by our gauchos—see our video—and served on to the dinner table at The Lodge.
