The wingshooting destination that all must see and do - Uruguay. No it is true. Uruguay is quickly becoming the dove hunting runner-up gaining much popularity behind Cordoba, Argentina. Los Gauchos would like to take this site to explain the benefits of dove hunting trips in Uruguay for doves and the added advantages of hunting in Uruguay.

Uruguay and Wingshooting

One good reason to come to Uruguay for dove hunting is the location and ease of getting to Uruguay and the lodges and fields that are full of doves. Colonia, Uruguay is just 50 minutes from Buenos Aires and is the closest city to Argentina. The land of Uruguay is corn, sourghoum, sunflower and rice farms and fields and the doves have a great population than people in Uruguay. Thus, Uruguay land owners want to do everything they can to protect their crops and the doves do not migrate but fly all year round. So there is no dove season -- a dove hunting trip in Uruguay is available year round.

Limits - none, zero, nada. There are no limits. The only limit is how fast you can reload your gun. Uruguay is located south of the equator so winter time in North America is summer in Uruguay and when it is blazing hot in North America it is nice and cool in Uruguay. The temperatures are mild so they do not see records heat waves or freezing cold seasons. So hunting in Uruguay is good all year and depending on the temperatures you prefer planning is a breeze to hunt doves in Uruguay.

The trip entails taking the hydrofoil from Buenos Aires to Colonia and then after being met at the port driving to Nueva Helvecia, about 45 minutes from the historic town of Colonia. Most Uruguay dove hunting trips include an afternoon dove hunt on the day of arrival. The dove hunting rips in Uruguay are 3 days; however, during the Perdiz hunting season (May-June-July), some wingshooters like to take in 4 days to experience the Perdiz hunting and the high volume dove hunting in Uruguay.

The surroundings of Elena are breathtaking and the lodge is equipped with a marvelous living room for dove hunters to meet after a hard hitting action on the dove field. Elena also provides the Uruguay Perdzi hunting and is large enough for dove hunting groups to arrange their dove hunting trip in Uruguay at the same time.
